Travel Website Development – Do it Yourself Options
Posted on | November 12, 2010 | No Comments
Want more options when it comes to designing a website for your travel and tour business?
Do you want another option to save money in the design process? Do you struggle in deciding what your site should look like and need visual examples to work with? Here are some options:
Using WebSite Templates
You should investigate using a website template for the design of your tourism site.
Templates (if created well) can be wonderful to work with. I have used them for both personal and client websites with great success. The bonus for owners is the ability to get a definitive visual presentation of a website before it is developed. To can see, on screen, how your website will look, feel and interact. The bonus for website designers is the ability to build a site in a significantly decreased amount of time. All the back and forth regarding colours and design is virtually eliminated and time is drastically reduced in the design phase. Or course, time is money.
A typical template that would be used by small tourism operators will generally cost under $100.00. If you are working with a designer, they could not come close to that price for developing a custom design.
Do you need to worry that with a template design, you will see your website everywhere? Nope. Each template, once purchased, can and should be customised. Your words, your pictures, your logo. No one else will have these and it will create the unique web presence you are looking for.
I highly recommend Dream Templates. For the cost of a single template on many other websites, Dream Templates offers you a full years access to all their templates with unlimited downloads. Trust me; you will change your mind a few times before you settle on the perfect design representation for your site. Why limit yourself to just one design when you can have access to thousands?

Use a Blog as a Website
Are you an idea hamster? Want to be more involved, have more control? Do you wake up with new ideas for your website and wish you had the ability to add content cheaply and easily? Do you love to write and want to tell the world everything about your tourism company? Do you have a bit of competency with computers and the internet? Then a blog might be for you.
Not sure what a blog is? What you are reading right now is a blog. The feel of a blog is more interactive, allowing visitors to comment on what you say. A blog is most likely updated frequently and has similar navigation from site to site. Most blogs contain elements like “recent posts” “archives” and “categories” and are easy to maintain with new and fresh information. Blogs can also be created with a standard webpage feel, allowing you the best of both worlds when it comes to managing your content.
Blog templates are available in the same manner as website design templates. Again, my favourite is the annual subscription style where you can download and test numerous themes before you decide which one will suit your needs.

Most web designers can change and edit themes to suit your exact needs, and like website templates, can drastically reduce the design fees and development time.
