How to Get More Traffic from Blog Commenting

Posted on | November 22, 2010 | 2 Comments

Is there value in commenting on travel blogs to increase your websites ranking in the search engines?

Absolutely. Let’s discuss this a little further by helping you find blogs that will follow your links, a refresher on why this is important, and how to write a good blog comment.

As we have mentioned often in this marketing blog, getting back links to your website will help your natural search engine listing rank higher. This is also true for blogs, but not all blogs treat links the same. Many blogs use the… NOFOLLOW rule. A nofollow rule is a piece of code built into the site that tells the search engines not to follow a specific link. This voids any possibility of a back link. To gain a back link, you need to find blogs that have DOFOLLOW rules. The dofollow works the opposite of nofollow and encourages search engines to follow a comment link, enhancing the possibility of gaining the back link you are looking for.

(note: there really is no such thing as dofollow, that’s just what us seo-geeks call it when there is an absence of a nofollow rule)

Do you need to find a dofollow blog? No. If you can find a well read blog that has lots of activity about your destination, go ahead and comment, do not worry about any of the nofollow stuff. If it is a popular well read blog, it is worth your time to post a comment as potential clients will be reading this blog and should notice your insightful comment along with your business name and be prompted to visit your site.

Finding blogs to comment on can be difficult and time consuming. You need to find something related to your niche and my best advice is to find a blog that references your location. If you have a vacation rental in Palm Springs, search for blogs that discuss Palm Springs. Dig deep to find something relevant to comment on. You might find a post about restaurants, golf, martinis, weather, events etc. You can then craft a comment to fit the blog.

A well written comment is a must, do not post something like “hey, I like your post”.

If it is a restaurant blog, suggest a meal at a specific establishment, if it is a blog about a local golf course, comment and provide details about a certain hole. Ask a question about a blog post or provide information, do not just post bland non-helpful notes.

Make whatever you are typing, worthwhile to read. Do not post blatant self promotion. Provide advice, hints and tips, suggestions that would have relevance to your tourism business. Blogs posts are often reviewed by editors before posting and if you add nothing to the conversation, your comment will not be posted.

its better to do know how to do blog commenting. most people simply post some random posts, without even reading the posts, and caring only about self promotion. its better to make those posts as spam.
