Blog Commenting to Enhance SEO for Tourism Marketing

Posted on | November 19, 2010 | 2 Comments

Have you ever thought about commenting on a blog? Many people think of it, few people do it. You and your website SEO do not know what you are missing.

Blog commenting is an easy way to gain credible inbounds links for your website.

We have spoken a lot about back links here; if you have missed those articles you will find links to them at the end of this post. But this is about so much more than back links. This is about authority, respect, and branding. Thoughtfully and carefully commenting on blogs that write about where you are, what you do or how you do it can gain you some valuable online respect.

Let’s try and find a local blog for you to comment on. There are truly gajillions of travel blogs out there that you can show your authority on. Search for the words, blog, travel, your town, your city and you should be able to find something. If you can’t, I will be happy to help. Just comment below with what you are looking for!

The best blogs to comment on would be ones that discuss your specific locality. Google loves local and it is one of the favourite concepts in the SEO these days. If Google is spending time on it, so should you. Fortunately, travel blogs are abundant.

Once you have found a blog, do not rush to push the comment button and type “wow, great post”. Come up with something insightful, add to the conversation, ask a question or provide some related information. An honest, informative comment will get posted (big important blogs review all comments and weed out the spammy ones) and you will have a nice link to your site along with your honest, informative comment or narrative.

Not only do you get the link, you show authority at having your business discussing travelers’ issues and lending a hand to the traveling community.

How do you actually comment? Let’s use this blog as an example. If you scroll down to the bottom of this post, you can see the commenting section. Fill in the blanks accurately and completely. If you prefer, you can use a throw away email address, but double check the accuracy of your url. This link will be available to everyone reading the blog. As for the name you use, you can choose to use either your real name or the name of your business. You will need to gage this by looking at other comments. If you are a travel business, posting travel information on a travel blog, a travel business name would be appropriate.

Now…go find a blog and post a comment. Or leave one here as a test, I promise to be kind and helpful if you make a mistake. I won’t flame, I won’t ridicule. That’s just not what I do.
